Accelerating the frontiers of scientific discovery: Google’s $40M commitment to the Genesis Mission

At the DOE Genesis Mission Summit, Google committed $40 million of AI tokens and cloud credits. Awardees get in-kind access to AlphaEvolve, AlphaFold 3, AlphaGenome, WeatherNext and AlphaEarth Foundations, plus one year of Gemini for Government seats and tokens for tens of thousands of DOE users.

The post cites PNNL using AlphaEvolve for combinatorics search and NLR cutting microscope calibration from more than 90 minutes to about 13 minutes. The commitment expands a December pledge and earlier lab access.

This is Google’s own public-sector announcement, so the dollar value, tool list and lab anecdotes are vendor-reported. The $40 million is tokens and credits, which means its practical worth depends on pricing, quotas and which workloads can use the listed models.

Genesis is a White House effort to double the pace of American scientific discovery in a decade. Google had already offered AI-for-science tools to all 17 DOE labs.
