DevFest is back

DevFest 2026 runs from October 1 through December 31, hosted worldwide by Google Developer Groups. Google expects nearly a million developers and builders to participate across more than 800 events in 115 countries.

This year’s theme — “Build, Secure, Scale: Developers and Builders in the Agentic Era” — emphasizes hands-on work with Gemini, Google AI Studio, Google Antigravity, Cloud, Firebase, Android, Flutter, Angular, and Web MCP through codelabs, workshops, and agent-athons.

We’re treating it as Google’s grassroots push to make agentic tooling feel local, not just keynote-deep.

We’re watching Google dual-track the agent story: frontier demos upstairs, GDG workshops downstairs. The three-track framing is honest about the moment — building got easier, security cannot be optional, and production infrastructure has to keep up.

Community-led agendas are a strength when local groups tailor content. They’re a risk when “secure” becomes a slide and agent-athons ship toys without threat modeling. Useful developer education that stresses privacy and guardrails alongside Gemini codelabs is worth amplifying. The downside if this scales as hype tourism is another season of demos that never harden.

I’m watching how many sessions go deep on secure deployment versus flashy agent demos — and whether Antigravity and Web MCP show up as real attendee projects, not just logo walls.
