Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash lets you build with more control
Aug 27, 2026, 9:11 AM · Google DeepMind

Google’s video update is less about prettier generation than about giving developers edit-like controls over continuity, iteration and output quality.
Why it matters
Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash adds scene extension using up to 10 seconds of prior context, with 10-second extensions up to a cumulative 40 seconds. It also supports first-and-last-frame interpolation, video references up to three seconds and 1080p or 4K output.
Google says 360p previews generate up to 60% faster and at one-third the cost of standard 720p. The model is available through Google AI Studio and the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, with consumer availability in Flow and the Gemini app.
From the desk
Generative video becomes more useful when creators can revise a shot instead of repeatedly gambling on a complete generation. The controls move the product toward a timeline tool: low-cost previews for exploration, keyframes for continuity and high-resolution output for delivery. The source gives a clear mechanism, but adoption and independent evidence will decide its significance.
Signal Desk's read: Generative video becomes more useful when creators can revise a shot instead of repeatedly gambling on a complete generation. The controls move the product toward a timeline tool: low-cost previews for exploration, keyframes for continuity and high-resolution output for delivery. The move is strategically coherent, although its limits are visible and should not be confused with proof of broad success.
This is a vendor-authored post; its claims are vendor-reported and need outside validation. The practical consequence is a new burden or option for operators, developers and institutions. That is where the announcement will be tested.
Context
Google showcases integrations and testimonials from Adobe, Figma Weave, GMI Cloud and Runway. Those are customer or partner claims presented on Google’s own blog, not independent evaluations.
The source gives feature limits and pricing-relative claims but no error rates for character consistency, frame interpolation or 4K output.
Who feels it
- Creative developers
- They can design workflows around previews, keyframes and extensions rather than one-shot prompts.
- Studios
- Higher resolution and continuity may reduce manual cleanup, if quality holds in production.
- It gains a platform foothold by making controls and API workflow as important as raw generation.
What to watch
- Independent tests of continuity and 4K quality.
- Actual 360p versus 720p cost and latency.
- Which creative platforms expose the new controls.
