The company now styled SpaceX Super Intelligence is collapsing X Premium, Grok, and Cursor into one laddered plan — "The X Subscription" — to fight OpenAI and Anthropic on price and surface area.

Why it matters

Paid AI is a crowded subscription shelf. SpaceXSI is answering by bundling what used to be separate products: X Premium social perks, Grok chat (voice, images, video, API, plus the agentic Bot), and Cursor for AI coding — all under one offering called The X Subscription.

Five tiers: free, Plus at $8/month, Premium at $30/month, Super at $100/month, and Ultra at $200/month, with AI usage caps rising up the ladder. Free gets limited chat and agent use; Premium or higher is required for the latest Grok models. TechCrunch notes existing X Premium+ subscribers see a comparable new plan at the same price or less. Upgrade prompts roll out gradually in billing settings; users can also keep their current plan.

From the desk

We're treating this as a distribution play more than a model breakthrough. Cursor already owns a serious share of AI coding mindshare. Grok sits inside X. Stitching them into one bill lowers friction for people who already live in that ecosystem — and raises the switching cost for anyone who would otherwise pay OpenAI or Anthropic separately plus keep a coding tool.

The tier math is aggressive at the top. Super and Ultra at $100 and $200/month are betting that heavy agent and coding users will pay for headroom the way they already pay for Claude or ChatGPT high tiers. The free and Plus rungs exist to feed the funnel; gating the newest Grok models behind Premium is the classic freemium squeeze. If the combined offering really undercuts or matches Premium+ for comparable access, churn-resistant social users become AI and IDE customers without a second checkout.

I'm watching the brand and trust questions as closely as the price card. Rebranding around "SpaceX Super Intelligence" ties consumer AI, a social network, and a developer IDE to a rocket company narrative. That can feel like scale — or like one corporate umbrella owning too many of the surfaces people use to write, talk, and code. Bundle economics only work if usage limits feel fair and if Cursor's quality does not get diluted into a lowest-common-denominator seat.

The competitive read is clear: OpenAI and Anthropic sell intelligence. SpaceXSI is selling a workplace-plus-social stack. That is a different product. Whether it wins depends on whether developers want their coding agent on the same receipt as their blue check.

Context

X Premium, Grok, and Cursor had been sold as related but separate paid experiences. Consolidating them under SpaceXSI's "The X Subscription" is an explicit response to multi-vendor AI subscription fatigue and to rivals' all-in-one plans.

Who feels it

X Premium / Premium+ subscribers
Watch billing settings for a gradual upgrade offer. Comparable access at the same price or less is the retention hook; staying on the old plan remains an option.
Developers on Cursor
Coding is now a rung on a social-and-chat ladder. Check which tier actually unlocks the Cursor features you use before assuming Ultra is required — or that Plus is enough.
OpenAI / Anthropic subscribers
A single bill covering chat, agents, coding, and social perks is the switching pitch. Compare usage caps and model access, not just sticker price.
Creators on X
Verified checkmark, creator tools, and fewer ads remain part of the bundle — social monetization is still in the stack, not replaced by AI.

What to watch

  1. How quickly the upgrade offer reaches existing Premium+ accounts and what conversion looks like.
  2. Real usage caps per tier once people hit agent and Cursor limits in production work.
  3. Whether latest-Grok gating at Premium drives upgrades or pushes power users back to rivals.
  4. Any quality or roadmap friction between Cursor's IDE identity and the broader X Subscription brand.
