At AI Day Singapore, NVIDIA and Partners Showcase AI Advancements Across Southeast Asia

At AI Day Singapore (September 22–23, Raffles City Convention Centre), NVIDIA and partners laid out how Southeast Asia is moving AI from pilots into production — across government, language-localized models, smart cities, and consumer platforms.

The headline institutional move: Sea Limited, the Singapore-founded company behind Shopee, Monee, and Garena, becomes the first enterprise in ASEAN to adopt NVIDIA’s Vera Rubin platform. Around it sit public-safety research, open-model fine-tunes, and sector tools meant to keep data and language control closer to home.

We’re treating this as infrastructure diplomacy with product receipts. NVIDIA’s frame is familiar — help every nation become an AI nation — but the partner list is the news. Singapore’s HTX is researching NVIDIA Nemotron 3 Super and Nemotron 3 Nano Omni for public-safety work, pairing complex reasoning with multimodal vision, audio, and language on operational data. NCS is pushing agentic adoption with Nemotron and the video search and summarization Blueprint; ST Engineering is using NeMo and cuOpt inside its AI Studio for marine MRO and other lines.

Zoom out across the region and the pattern is localize, then own. Malaysia’s YTL AI Labs and Viettel AI are fine-tuning Nemotron for enterprise, citizen, and Vietnamese-language use. In Thailand, the Big Data Institute and iApp Technology are adapting Nemotron 3 Nano with OpenThai 2.0 Legal data via NeMo; iApp’s Thanoy legal assistant already serves about 43,000 users as open source for Thai developers. FPT Smart Cloud co-developed Nemotron-Personas-Vietnam. AI Singapore is folding Nemotron and NeMo into the SEA-LION family built for Southeast Asian languages and cultures. That is useful AI when it means models that speak the region’s languages and sit under local governance — not only APIs pointed at distant labs.

Sea’s Vera Rubin adoption is the commercial scale story. The company already uses AI for Shopee listings and discovery, Monee fraud and credit risk, and Garena experiences across hundreds of millions of users. More compute for agents and models can help SMEs that lacked enterprise tooling. It also concentrates more of ASEAN’s consumer AI stack on NVIDIA’s next platform generation — a dependency as strategic as the capability gain.

The downside to watch is familiar: public-safety multimodal systems and smart-city stacks (ITMAX traffic in Malaysia, AS-TECH airport flows in Thailand on Cosmos plus VSS) expand surveillance and automation surface area even when the stated goal is service delivery. Sovereign-sounding localization can still run on foreign silicon and foreign blueprints.

I’m watching whether Nemotron fine-tunes show up as production citizen services beyond chatbots, whether Sea’s Rubin deployment changes latency or cost for Shopee/Monee agents, and whether “Open Secure AI Alliance” talk becomes procurement language for governments that want local control without building chips. The trajectory if this becomes normal is a Southeast Asia that runs on customized open models — with NVIDIA as the default substrate.
