Elon Musk’s AI-powered Grokipedia is updating again

The Verge reports SpaceXAI’s Grokipedia is showing live updates again after Lawfare noted in August that edits hadn’t been reviewed since April. Recent changes often say “recheck all references and sources.” Obama’s page was fact-checked two days prior; Musk’s updated during reporting; Honolulu still showed a seven-month-old check.

Reporter Jay Peters successfully suggested a Gears of War: E-Day release date that was accepted, and a Muse article request sat “In Review.” Musk hasn’t posted about Grokipedia on X since February; X/SpaceXAI design head Benji Taylor said last week they hadn’t forgotten and “v0.2 will be better than ever” (v0.2 launched in November). SpaceXAI didn’t comment.

We’re marking a pulse, not a renaissance.

An AI encyclopedia that sleeps for months then batch-rechecks references is still an experiment in machine authority. Useful if it becomes a transparent, correctable knowledge layer. Harmful if “Fact-checked by Grok” becomes a latex glove over thin sourcing.

I’m watching coverage breadth versus vanity pages. Musk updating while Honolulu lags is a prioritization tell. Accepting a game release-date suggestion quickly is nice UX; it doesn’t prove epistemic quality.

We’ll care when update cadence and citation standards are consistent — and when Musk’s “massive improvement over Wikipedia” claim has receipts beyond a design lead’s v0.2 tweet.
