Everything new coming to Meta’s AI agent Muse

At Connect, Zuckerberg centered Meta’s consumer bet on Muse — realtime avatars, glasses wake words, Mac computer use, its own email, and a shopping-connector land grab.

Why it matters

Muse launched only in early September, and Connect already treated it as the company’s personal-superintelligence centerpiece. The agent, powered by Muse Spark and embodied as the avatar Jolly, is meant to sit across devices, email, calendars, glasses, and eventually the desktop.

Meta is pairing that ambition with a money thesis: free for a huge number of tokens now, with the expectation of taking a small fee from transactions later. That is a platform bet, not a chatbot feature list.

From the desk

We’re covering Connect’s Muse hour as distribution strategy dressed as product demos.

The new surface area is wide. Muse Realtime Avatar gives the agent a face, body, and voice for live video chat. Glasses integration brings a wake word and background work — workouts, meal logging, appointments, buying what you see — with check-ins when a job finishes, targeted for “the coming months.” Mac computer use lets Muse operate desktop apps while you walk away, the same category OpenAI and Anthropic are racing. Muse gets its own email address “soon,” so it can sit on threads and act without you unlocking a phone.

Shopping is where the monetization story gets concrete. Stripe, Shopify, Lync, Shop Pay, and more PayPal support; retail connectors for Best Buy, Gap, Sephora, Walmart, and Wayfair; Expedia now and Instacart soon; plus GitHub, Granola, and Notion. Wang said Meta opened connectors to developers and took more than 1,500 applications in less than a week — the language of a new platform, not a helper widget.

Useful AI wants an agent that actually clears busywork across the apps people already live in. The harm side is concentration and permission scope: an agent with email, Mac control, glasses mic, and checkout rails is a single point of failure for privacy mistakes, bad purchases, and social-graph leverage Meta already knows how to monetize. “Free tokens now, take a cut of transactions later” is honest about the business model; it also means Muse’s incentives tilt toward commerce the user didn’t necessarily ask to optimize.

I’m watching whether Mac computer use and Muse email ship with clear audit logs and kill switches, and whether those 1,500 connector applicants produce something beyond shopping. If Muse becomes the default way people buy and schedule, Meta doesn’t need another chat app — it needs consent theater that actually holds.

Context

Kirsten Korosec and Lucas Ropek for TechCrunch, Sep 23, 2026 (6:13 PM PDT), on Meta Connect keynote announcements for Muse capabilities, partnerships, and Zuckerberg’s personal-superintelligence framing.

Who feels it

Meta users / Muse early adopters
Avatar chat, glasses wake-word control, Mac computer use, and Muse email are the near-term capability wave if timelines hold.
Retailers and marketplace sellers
Shopify catalog access plus Best Buy, Gap, Sephora, Walmart, and Wayfair connectors put Muse in the checkout path Meta wants to tax.
Developers building connectors
Open platform with 1,500+ applications in under a week is the invitation to treat Muse as a new distribution surface.
Privacy / trust reviewers
Agent with glasses, email, desktop control, and payments needs clearer audit and consent story than a keynote demo.

What to watch

  1. Ship dates for Muse on glasses, Mac computer use, and Muse’s own email address.
  2. How transaction fees are disclosed when Muse completes purchases.
  3. Quality and security review of third-party connectors after the application surge.
  4. Whether Muse Realtime Avatar increases engagement or just Metaverse déjà vu.
