Meta launches enterprise AI platform, hires MongoDB CEO to lead new initiative

Aisha Malik reports Meta announced Meta Enterprise Platform on Monday to expand AI offerings to businesses and corporate customers, hiring Chirantan “CJ” Desai—CEO of MongoDB—to lead it. MongoDB shares dropped more than 17% on the news; Dev Ittycheria returned as interim CEO.

Desai said AI will redefine how organizations innovate and operate, and that Meta’s stack—advanced models plus agents with a track record across advertisers and hundreds of millions of businesses—can become deployable products and services. The initiative builds on Muse’s consumer momentum earlier this month.

We’re reading this as Meta’s monetization pivot, not a research reorg. Consumer Muse chart-topping was the proof; Enterprise Platform is the invoice.

Useful AI for companies is real when it sits inside workflows advertisers already trust Meta to run. That distribution is Meta’s unfair advantage—and the reason procurement teams should ask hard questions about data boundaries between personal Muse, Business Agent, and ad systems.

Hiring a sitting public-company CEO is a seriousness signal. The MongoDB drawdown shows the talent war’s externalities. Desai’s job is to turn capex into ARR before the market decides Meta’s AI spend is only a consumer vanity project.

I’m watching whether “enterprise” means VPC-grade controls or just a sales motion over the same agent. If it is the former, Meta becomes a credible alternative to OpenAI and Anthropic for some stacks. If it is the latter, SMBs get the deeper product first—and enterprises wait.
