Meta now lets AI agents handle the boring parts of WhatsApp Business setup

Sarah Perez at TechCrunch reports Meta now lets chosen AI agents set up and manage WhatsApp Business messaging via a new WhatsApp Business Tools MCP server. Previously developers juggled Developer Console, Business Manager, API docs, and editors. Now they can describe the setup in chat to an MCP-capable coding agent.

Meta already offered MCP for ads and app monitoring; this targets business onboarding—the tedious part that blocks SMBs from conversational commerce.

Useful automation. Also a privileged path into business messaging identity.

WhatsApp Business is how huge numbers of small firms reach customers. If an agent can finish setup from a plain-language brief, that’s earned convenience. Meta expanding MCP beyond ads into Business messaging fits the industry’s agent-tooling wave.

The harm path: an over-permissioned agent misconfigures opt-in, spam templates, or access tokens; or attackers socially engineer “help me set up WhatsApp” flows. MCP connected to Business Manager is crown-jewel adjacent.

I’m watching Meta’s permission prompts, whether agents can send messages or only configure, and early abuse reports from the Business platform.
