Meta’s Muse hits Mac, letting the AI take actions on your computer

Sarah Perez’s TechCrunch report says Meta’s Muse assistant is now on Mac, acting inside native apps for files, messages, calendar, notes, and mail after launching on mobile and web earlier this month and rising to the top of U.S. App Store charts. Access is opt-in; Meta says the app always asks before sensitive actions.

Alexandr Wang posted that the Mac agent can “get stuff done right on your computer” with user control over access. Mark Zuckerberg framed the ship as the team moving fast. The launch lands amid intensifying competition among consumer agents—seen as a threat to apps, SaaS, and eventually hardware—plus text-message agents like Poke (exited to Cognition in July) and Instinct, reportedly raising at a $10 billion valuation. Muse and Instinct both rolled out voice calling this week.

We’re for desktop agents that do real work in real apps—and we want “asks before sensitive” to mean every irreversible click, not a one-time toast.

Mac is where files and mail actually live. Opt-in scopes are the minimum bar; the product question is whether Muse’s prompts stay sharp after the honeymoon or train users to smash Allow. Shipping voice the same week as Instinct shows how compressed this race is.

Useful AI on the desktop beats another chat tab if it respects local context and fails closed. The downside if Meta’s agent stack leaks or over-automates is personal data at Meta scale. I’m watching permission UX under daily use, whether enterprise Macs get separate controls, and who wins share before the feature lists blur together.
