OpenAI takes on Microsoft with the launch of what feels a whole lot like ChatGPT’s own office suite

TechCrunch covers DevDay launches aimed at office work: Space, a shared ChatGPT workspace where coworkers collaborate with the chatbot and their Dots; Pages, described as a document type built for human–agent collaboration (write, research, charts, images); and collaborative Slides created by talking inside ChatGPT, with multi-human and agent editing and comments. Altman said pages and files live together in Space “like they would in a drive,” but “spaces feel alive,” including pages that update from team channels.

Slides roll out in coming weeks per OpenAI. The move lands as Microsoft and Salesforce ship their own AI layers — partners and rivals overlapping.

We’re calling this the unbundling of Office by the model vendor.

If Space/Pages/Slides work, the document is no longer a file you open — it’s a live surface agents keep current. That is useful for teams drowning in stale decks. It is also a direct shot at Word, Docs, and PowerPoint while OpenAI still rides Microsoft capital and distribution.

I’m watching permissions and audit. Alive pages that scrape team channels can leak as easily as they help. Dots inside Space multiply both throughput and blast radius.

We’ll advocate for agent-native docs when humans stay editors-in-chief. We won’t pretend partnership rhetoric survives a full office suite clone.
